Thank you all for the creative suggestions, and to Deb for pointing out that the elongated coin mafia might wack me if I molest a collectible coin squisher.
The idea to incorporate a functional coin embosser into the exhibit is a great one, and I'll look into that. Our budget may not allow for a new machine, but it will eventually pay for itself. I see used ones as well, so a custom set of dies would still need to be ordered, but again, it's a revenue generator.
Our other option is to use a set of 8 industrial gears I can get for free from an industrial supply house and just make something with spinning gears. I have access to a metal lathe and mill, so fabbing up something indestructible for the gears to spin on is doable, but time consuming.
I appreciate this list and all the fine folk that make it work!

Honestly I suggest you use the penny squisher as part of the exhibit!
It'll be both an exhibit component, souvenir generator, AND donation box. :)
This company can help you customize the molds.

Hello All,
We're working on a "steam-punk" themed hands-on exhibit element, and I'd like to incorporate something hand-cranked with lots of gears.
My question to the list is, does anybody have one of those commercial penny-pressing machines? I'd like to see if there are any used ones out there that somebody would part with. My intention is to use the crank and gears to do something other than squishing pennies and possibly even less productive, just for fun.
Please feel free to contact me off-list, and thanks in advance.
