The Sweetwater County Historical Museum in Green River, WY seeks a creative and enthusiastic Executive Director to guide and inspire a diverse and talented staff, foster partnerships, and lead the museum as it grows as a center for cultural and civic engagement.

 

ABOUT THE MUSEUM

Established in 1969, the Museum is housed in a renovated 1931 post office building and contains a collection of approximately 40,000 artifacts, county archives with a large historical photograph collection, and local history research material. Sweetwater County has an ethnically diverse history and the Sweetwater County Historical Museum strives to tell the stories of the Native Americans, explorers, fur trappers, travelers of emigrant trails, railroad workers, coal miners, ranchers, cowboys, sheepherders, homesteaders, business people, trona miners, and oil and gas workers who have called this unique landscape home.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Executive Director is responsible for the development, execution, and management of the policies, programs, and initiatives of the Sweetwater County Historical Museum as guided by its Board of Directors in its mission to preserve and present the story of Sweetwater County. The museum will be celebrating several its 50th anniversary and several other anniversaries of important local events in the coming years.

 

A primary goal of the Museum is expanded space for collections storage, exhibits, and programming. The incumbent will be tasked with securing this space. Those with experience in capital campaigns and historically sensitive building projects are encouraged to apply.
