Hi listers. Looking for advice here. We're starting to get an increasing number of requests from people who want to get copies or make enlargements from images in our collection. As of yet, we don't have a policy but we need to make one, and we're having a board meeting this Friday to discuss. First, to decide if we should offer reprints at all, since we really don't have the staff/time to scan the images and print them. There is no paid staff time for this since we have a grant that pays for inventory work, so it would need to be done by the curator (me), when I'm on volunteer time or by other volunteers -- but would most likely end up being me since I'm the on;y volunteer currently that does scanning and printing. If we decide yes, this would need to be seen as a priority service for us to offer, above other tasks. Then we need to set fees, turnaround time, what images are allowed, sizes, etc...

I'm also not wild about losing control of our images -- since we've already had commercial outfits pick up our out of copyright digitized scrapbooks and documents and package them for sale. We don't want other people selling prints, postcards or calendars of images in our collection, because we want our Historical Society to be able to do that as fundraisers.

I'm wondering what you folks do at your sites? And do any of your organizations have policies you'd be willing to share to help us craft ours? Thanks for whatever help or advice you can provide!

best,
--Kathie
