Hello Jodi, We too have struggled, going from VHS players to DVD's to solid state media players. At least we skipped laserdisc. Currently we use BrigtSign media players and flat screen video monitors. BrightSign units can be had for as little as $250, and are user-programmable to do nearly anything you need a video player to do. Monitors are preferred over TV screens, simply because they are smart enough to turn on when the power comes on (TV's mostly have to be switched on every day). This is important mostly because we run our video systems on cheap electronic timers that turn them on and off automatically to cut down on staff involvement. We tried using "digital picture frames" to loop short videos, but they proved to be short lived. You really want to use HD 1080 as a minimum standard, as that's pretty much what the public expects. Hope this helps, Curtis Morris Shiloh Museum -----Original Message----- From: Jodi Lundgren [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: Tuesday, September 20, 2016 2:51 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [MUSEUM-L] audio visual tech for galleries Hello, We have only displayed video works in our galleries on flatscreen TV/DVD combos in the past. I'm trying to research best methods and equipment for the projection of video works but it is all Greek to me. We have no dedicated audio/video specialist and I'm on the fringes of being a technophobe. Can anyone suggest a good resource or place to start in terms of identifying what kind of projection system might be a fit for us? Is there a "museum standard" in terms of specific projectors/players/audio systems you recommend for displaying audio/video work in art museum galleries? We have the option of something that could be suspended from above or set on a pedestal as we have good ceiling support. I'm starting from scratch here. Thanks so much, Jodi Lundgren South Dakota Art Museum ========================================================= Important Subscriber Information: The Museum-L FAQ file is located at http://www.finalchapter.com/museum-l-faq/ .
