PART-TIME TEXTILE ASSOCIATE

 

Temporary Paid Position

Hours: 10-16 hours per week

Hourly Rate: $10.00/hour

 

Position Summary and Responsibilities: The Textile Associate will assist the Curator of Collections in assessing and rehousing the Molly Brown House Museum’s rolled textile collection. The Associate will inventory, document, and assess all textiles within the museum’s permanent holdings, and update each item’s PastPerfect catalogue record with image, status, condition and address any related issues. Finally, the Associate will assist the Curator of Collections in planning and implementing onsite rehousing.

 

Necessary Qualifications:

·         Bachelor’s degree in museum studies, art history, history, or related field

·         Experience handling artifacts, especially textiles

·         Experience creating special storage for artifacts

·         Standard museum photographing skills

·         Collections database management skills

·         Strong attention to detail

·         Ability to take the lead while working independently or with others

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Master’s degree in museum studies, art history, history, or related field

·         Experience working with and rehousing a textile collection

·         Efficiency in PastPerfect collections database

 

Physical/Mental Requirements: Physical demands associated with this position include reaching, handling, and lifting. The position requires the ability to see detail close up and at a distance (near and far acuity, depth perception, field of vision, accommodation and color vision). Required are the abilities to apply principles of logic or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; to interpret a variety of technical instructions in various forms; to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; to use spatial, visual and tactile discrimination; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and volunteers, supervisory staff, other organizations and agencies, and the general public.
