The International Institute for Conservation (IIC) is holding its 2016 World Congress in Los Angeles, an event of interest to all involved collecting and managing contemporary art collections.  There is still time to register!

Saving the Now: Crossing Boundaries to Conserve Contemporary Works, September 12th to the 16th, promises to be a ground-breaking event for those faced with the challenges of managing and caring for contemporary collections.  

The congress will take place at the historic Biltmore Hotel situated in the heart of the vibrant downtown arts district of Los Angeles.  

The Program will include:
  • Considerations in the acquisition of contemporary artwork: Refabrication as a preservation strategy
  • Transitional media: Duration, recursion and the paradigm of conservation
  • The role of conservation in new contemporary art installations in new contexts: The case of Richard Serra’s East-West/West-East in Qatar
  • The dilemma of fading food: An investigation into the light sensitivity of selected Ed Ruscha screenprints
  • 'Twin Wells': The reconstruction and re-installation of a multimedia installation with fog and sound elements by Dennis Oppenheim
  • This Is So Contemporary? Mediums of Exchange and Conservation
