OVERVIEW

Go For Broke National Education Center (GFBNEC) is an educational nonprofit, with the mission to educate and inspire character and equality in all Americans through teaching about the virtue and valor of our World War II American veterans of Japanese ancestry.  In May of 2016, GFBNEC opened a new leading-edge educational exhibition about the Japanese American soldier legacy within the broader context of the Japanese American experience of World War II. The 3,800 square foot permanent exhibition examines this chapter of history from a contemporary perspective that incorporates issues facing our communities and nation today.  The exhibition is located in the historic Nishi Hongwanji Building in the Little Tokyo Historic District of Los Angeles. 

SCOPE OF WORK

The Exhibition Manager will handle the day-to-day operations of The Defining Courage Experience. The position will coordinate school tours, innovates the volunteer program for the exhibition, and manage front desk operations.

Duties of the Exhibitions Manager include, but are not limited to:

·         School Groups

o   Leads all efforts with school outreach, school tours, and school programs

o   Contacts schools and school districts to arrange tours of exhibition

o   Books school visits to the exhibition, and maintains the master calendar of School Group visits to the Exhibition

o   Plans, preps, manages, executes, and follows-up all school group tours

o   Maintains records and statistics of school group tours and reports these to GFBNEC Leadership

·         Volunteers for Exhibition

o   Finds/recruits volunteers to work the exhibition

o   Schedules and assigns “greeters” (docents) and other volunteers to work the exhibition

o   Trains “greeters” (docents) and other volunteers for the exhibition

o   Works with Front Desk Coordinator to facilitate volunteers on the weekend

·         Front Desk Operations

o   Manages Front Desk Attendants and Front Desk Coordinator

B.A. in related field required. Masters preferred. 2-3 years of experience required. Skills should include experience working in schools and/or with groups of school-age children. Organization and scheduling expertise is a must. Prior experience working with museums and/or interpretive exhibits preferred.  

This is a full-time position eligible for benefits. Position reports to Director of Education & Exhibits.
