So I'm not a gamer -- but "I know a guy.... " to coin a phrase from the movies.

He is a gamer, and also a software developer working on things on the level of Ingress or Pokemon.   As others have said the new
Pokemon game primarily used "portals" created by local gamers a few years ago for use in the game Ingress.

We had an Ingress "portal" in/near our museum, (a public statue located on a prominent corner outside our building).   When the game
first came out I approached my friend about how/what the museum could do to best take advantage of this craze.  Alas, we couldn't come up with a lot of good answers.  These games are really sorta hit-n-run type activities.   Visitors come - collect what loot the can (in this case pokemons) - and then run off to find the next group.  Unless someone knows differently, there isn't whole lot of opportunity for other community organizations to glam on to the craze and encourage visitors to stop, look, and linger.   . . . Kinda unfortunate, but such is the nature of the game.

Becca (and others with this problem),

There is a function within the app to report problems like this. Unfortunately, you need to have the app downloaded to access the report function. In the settings menu, select "Report High-Priority Issue." This takes you to an external reporting center for game issues. Under "Gameplay Questions," select "Report an issue with a Gym or Pokestop." From what I understand, they've been responsive about removing Gyms and Pokestops that are causing problems like yours. Hopefully you can have this problem remedied sooner rather than later.

Best,

Robin,
We are trying to have the location at our museum changed. The game makers chose a part of our grounds that are part of our admission fee and can only be accessed by foot. In the last week, we have had people angry AT US because of the admission cost, driving their cars on our grounds, and trying to sneak in during closed hours....all so they can get a Pokemon gym. Very frustrating.
We didn't ask to be part of it. In fact, we didn't know our museum had a location until people started showing up.
I have spent hours scouring the internet looking for a phone number or email address to contact the company and ask them to move the location to our parking lot or remove us completely. So far, no luck! For us, it has not been a good experience so far.

Does anyone know how we can get our museum to be a site for Pokémon Go?  For those of you who are part of the game, how has it impacted your site?
