Fellowships

Behind every inquiry lies a wealth of knowledge to be gained, relationships to be forged, and discoveries to be shared with the world. Our Fellowship Program makes this important work possible.

Why serve a NMNH fellowship?
Our fellows conduct independent research and collaborate with over 500 renowned scientists and scholars. Fellows have access to the world’s largest natural and cultural history collections, including 157 million specimens, and state-of-the-art analytical equipment.

Who is eligible?
M.Sc. and Ph.D. students (pre-candidacy and those who have passed candidacy), post-doctoral and professional researchers may apply. Fellowships are available to US and non-US citizens. Applicants should write and converse fluently in English. All application materials must be submitted in English.

How do I apply?
Apply through the Smithsonian Online Academic Appointment System, SOLAA, found at: https://solaa.si.edu/solaa/SOLAAHome.html

Applicants are encouraged to contact NMNH research staff well in advance of the deadline to determine the feasibility of the proposed research. A listing of current NMNH research staff and directories can be found at http://www.smithsonianofi.com/sors-index/national-museum-of-natural-history-nmnh/.
