Terms of position:  One internship position ---- 26 weeks from mid-May to mid-November. Work week is Monday through Friday with alternating weekend duty and compensatory time off.  988 total hours for the internship based on a 38 hour work week.     

 

Location:  Homestead Prairie Farm, a circa 1860 living history house museum, is located on the grounds of  the Rock Springs Conservation Area (a 1300 acre riverine forest and prairie park) near the city of Decatur, Illinois. It is administered by the staff of the Macon County Conservation District with assistance from volunteers.  For more information on the conservation district go to:  www.maconcountyconservation.org

 

Salary/Stipend/Housing:  $9.00/hour at 38 hours/week. Intern also receives a $250 monthly housing stipend payment.  No on-site housing is available but site is near Decatur, Illinois.       

 

Duties :

·       Interpretation: The intern will assist in the third person interpretation of Homestead Prairie Farm. The main feature is the Trobaugh-Good House which is listed on the National Register.  The main interpretive duties include working with staff and volunteers to provide tours and  history programs for the general public during regular weekend hours and also for schools and other groups by appointment either on-site or as outreach.     

 

·       Youth Programs: The intern will co-manage the Pioneer Adventure Day Camp with a part-time staff naturalist.  The camp meets for one morning a week for 6 weeks in June and July. Campers are ages 6 to 12.     

 

·       Collections/Exhibits:  The intern will help other staff set up/remove exhibits and assist with various collections duties.        

 

·       Research/Educational/Administrative: Assist with the research and presentation of various history programs both on-site and off-site, research various history topics for interpreter training materials and train/supervise volunteers as needed. The interns will also assist with special events, some housekeeping/maintenance duties and other duties.
