  • Position summary:

    Performs various guest service activities to include greeting and acknowledging all visitors to the Museum in a prompt and friendly manner and to provide information, assistance and direction to visitors. Position will also promote the mission of the Museum, provide for the safe-keeping of the Museum environment and its displays, preserve and protect property and maintain presentation standards.

    Position responsibilities:

    • Supports a strong commitment to world class customer service and ensures a pleasant and productive experience for all visitors to the Museum.
    • Provide information, assistance and direction to all visitors.
    • Provide guided tours with children and adults.
    • Assist with educational programs and events.
    • Assist in opening and closing the Museum, including maintaining the posted business hours.
    • Refers visitors to appropriate staff members with regards to donations of money, artifacts, archival materials and/or other items or concerns.
    • May assist with the development, implementation, presentation and maintenance of Museum displays and artifacts.
    • May participate in area-wide workshops, visitor services training and professional organizations as deemed beneficial to the Museum mission.
    • May schedule volunteers to optimize visitor assistance/interaction during peak traffic periods.
    • Keeps work area clean, neat and well stocked with supplies.
    • Performs other duties, assignments and responsibilities as needed.

    Education and/or Experience:

    High School education or equivalent experience

    Knowledge of the history of Museum topics desired

    Knowledge of museum practices

    Basic computer skills

    Mathematical Skills / Reasoning Ability

    Ability to calculate figures such as discounts and make change to customers

    Communication Skills

    Ability to communicate in a friendly, engaging and professional manner

    Strong written communication skills

    Ability to prepare and conduct lectures and seminars as required

    Skilled at public speaking with individuals as well as with larger groups

    Physical requirements

    Able to lift up to 50 pounds

    Able to stand for extended periods

    Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Ability to interpret historical collections and information to communicate same to the general public

    Ability to keep accurate records

    Good organization skills along with detail orientation

    Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure

    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Management, co-workers, volunteers, visitors and the general public

    Ability to operate computerized Point of Sale register system
