The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, Florida, will be offering seven paid internships for ten weeks from June 6 – August 12, 2016 (the two theater internships run from June 8 – August 1). The Ringling is the State Art Museum of Florida and a part of Florida State University. It consists of art and circus museums, as well as a historic mansion and theater, all on a 66-acre site overlooking Sarasota Bay.

Summer internships combine practical, hands-on experience working on a project for a specific department with exposure to all aspects of The Ringling’s operation. The deadline for applications is February 15, 2016.

Position: Collections Management Intern
Department: Collections Management

Responsibilities: The Summer Intern will be introduced to all aspects of Collections Management and its role within the Ringling Museum.  S/he is expected to gain a broad understanding of the Registration profession and will attend exhibition openings; gallery talks, department, division, and board meetings as well as work with different Museum departments on small projects. The 2016 project will be focused on developing a workflow and plan of care for a recently donated collection of approximately 18,000 stereograph negatives, cards, and stereoscopes; The intern will examine, catalogue, and rehouse part of the collections and from there develop a strategy so other interns or staff can continue to work on this interesting collection while following developed guidelines and standards.

Qualifications: Graduate student in museum studies, art history, history, or library sciences or archives.
