    The software will work fine but depending on how many you have to do and do you plan on editing them or just copying them as is would determine whether a software or a hardware solution would work best for you.   When I first started converting our VHS Collection I did it through a similar method.  It works but it’s just time consuming.  We eventually purchased a VHS to DVD recorder and then the time wasn’t a factor.  What I mean by this is that you simply put the VHS tape in and a DVD-R, hit a couple of buttons to start the playing of the VHS and recording of the DVD and walk away.  I found the hardware way much easier because even after you record it the program has to encode the video with its built in video codex, which depending on the speed of the machine could take a couple of hours to do.  Before I got my new machine it would take about 2 hours per 2Gigabytes of video.  When I did the Hardware conversion it took me about 10 minutes to get it started and another 5 minutes to test it after it was done.  I hope this helps.  If you have any further questions feel free to contact me and I can help in any way I can.  I’m not part of this feed but a co-worker is and she forwarded this to me since this is what I do to suggest help.

Hello all, 

 

My museum is in possession of a number of VHS tapes that have never been digitized. Many of these tapes cover historical events in the area, as well as important events at our museum. Currently, I am looking at purchasing the Roxio VHS to DVD software. The software is relatively inexpensive and it seems to do what I need it to. Does anyone have any experience with the software, or can anyone perhaps suggest something different?
