Summary of Work

The intern will assist the Registrar and Assistant Registrar with all
museum registration activities. Although the intern will be responsible for
a high priority project, updating the Museum Collections Procedural Manual,
there will also be the opportunity to work on a variety of both
registration and collections management tasks. These tasks may include, but
not limited to, donor communications, accessioning, cataloging, research,
artifact loans, and collections inventories.

Duties and Tasks

The intern will assist the Registrar and Assistant Registrar in updating
the Museum Collections Procedures Manual. Updates need to be made to
several sections and new chapters need to be written of the Procedures
Manual such as those referring to reindexing the database, deleting object
records, Integrated Pest Management, environmental monitoring, etc.

Other necessary tasks include preparing Potential Acquisition Proposals for
the Museum Collections Committee to review, writing gift agreements,
communicating with collection donors, accessioning collections, cataloging
artifacts, processing artifact loan renewals, assuring database records are
current, facilitating collection inventories, proposing deaccession actions
to the Museum Collections Committee, and assuring PastPerfect or
Re:Discovery database records are current. The intern will also have the
opportunity to work with the collections staff cataloging, photographing,
and housing artifacts.

Student Requirements

Applicant must be a graduate student with major in Museum Studies, US
History, Anthropology, Natural History, or related field. Class work or
experience in museum registration of collections management preferred.

To be eligible for a North Dakota State Government Stipend Student
Internship, a student:

   - Must be a full-time student currently enrolled in an accredited
   college, university, or vocational-technical program in the United States,
   and
   - Must be able to receive academic credit for the internship, and
   - Must have a cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 2.0 on a 4.0
   scale
