JOB DESCRIPTION





PROGRAM SUMMARY



Veterans’ Memorial Hall (“VMH”) is a joint project between the St. Louis County Historical Society and regional U.S. military veterans. Its mission includes, in part, preserving and interpreting the experiences of veterans, their families, and their communities through museum, archival, website, and educational programs.

POSITION SUMMARY


The VMH Program Manager reports to the Executive Director of the St. Louis County Historical Society and is responsible for managing the Veterans’ Memorial Hall Program in all of its functional areas, including the oral history program; event production; fundraising activities, including grant writing; and website and publicity.



The Program Manager also cultivates, maintains and enhances relationships with potential, current and past supporters and maintains a donor tracking database.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



•         Develop, streamline and monitor for efficiency and accuracy the systems and procedures that connect oral history volunteer interviewers with their subjects and provide the interviewers with the needed equipment to accomplish this task.  Work with other Society staff and volunteer or paid transcribers to facilitate accuracy, quality and integrity of the interviews.



•         Work with the Society’s Collections Manager and with the Albert J. Amatuzio Research Center Assistant to ensure that all interviews are deposited into the AJARC paper files, correctly and in a timely manner, as well as (in most cases) being entered onto the VMH website.



•         Manage the Albert J. Amatuzio Research Center, working with the Society’s Collections Manager and with the AJARC Assistant.



•         Work with volunteers, interns and contractors in the development of VMH exhibits and exhibit improvements.







  *   Work with the Veterans’ Memorial Hall Advisory Committee, which advises the St. Louis County Historical Society’s Board of Governors and Society staff for the purpose of funding, planning, locating, developing and maintaining the Veterans’ Memorial Hall Program.  Participate in all Committee meetings and do all preparations for them.


  *   Work with the Society’s Collections Manager in the acquisition, storage and exhibit presentation of veteran-related artifacts and archival materials.



  *   Assume responsibility for public relations for the program in all media, including building and maintaining relationships with veterans and veteran groups throughout St. Louis County.



  *   Serve as manager of the content and technical functioning of the Veterans’ Memorial Hall website, www.vets-hall.org<http://www.vets-hall.org/> and its database of approximately 6,000 stories, photos, and videos, working to expand the database and provide research and expanded/updated interpretive content.  Work with any staff, interns and volunteers assigned to the basic veterans’ biographical story entry process.



  *   Perform and complete other duties as required by the Executive Director.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES


Directly supervise the work of any staff members, volunteers, interns and contractors who may be assigned to VMH exhibits and other projects, in conjunction with the Society Executive Director.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS


  *   Bachelor’s degree is preferred.  Equivalent experience in military history, history, museum management, or related field shall be considered.
  *   Demonstrable success in project planning and execution
  *   Excellent oral and written communications skills
  *   Understanding of the oral history process and its management

  *   Working knowledge of essential computer, website and social media programs
  *   U.S. military veteran status is preferred. Demonstration of understanding of the experiences of veterans and/or their families is required.
