The Historical Society of Rockland County (HSRC) seeks an Education Coordinator to engage diverse residents and visitors using the nationally significant and inspirational history of Rockland County, NY. The primary responsibilities of the Education Coordinator include developing, implementing, managing, and evaluating K–12 educational programs, on-site and off-site tours, outreach programs, community events, and the annual Rockland County High School Local History Conference. The Education Coordinator also recruits and supervises volunteers/docents and helps with other projects in accordance with the HSRC’s strategic plan and mission.

The HSRC, founded in 1965, is dedicated to engaging diverse audiences in a dynamic dialogue about the rich historical heritage of our county. To fulfill this mission, the Society collects, catalogs, preserves and exhibits artifacts and archival materials that reflect the diverse history of Rockland County and the lower Hudson River valley; sponsors educational programs and publications based on sound scholarship to promote the appreciation of history and the cultural heritage of the people of Rockland; promotes through programs, services and example the preservation, restoration, continuing and adaptive use of the historic buildings and sites in the county; and develops and maintains the financial, professional and human resources necessary to achieve the purposes and goals of the organization.

The five-acre HSRC campus in New City, NY, contains a 7,200 square foot History Center, with two museum galleries, administrative offices, a library, and collections storage; the historic ca. 1832 Jacob Blauvelt Farmhouse; and a restored (unheated) 1,500 square foot, post-and-beam Anglo-Dutch barn, carriage house, and blacksmith’s shop.

This is a full-time position that includes some weekend and evening duties. The position includes benefits. The Education Coordinator reports to and works with the Executive Director and a varied team of volunteers. The HSRC is an equal opportunity employer.
