Hello Fellow Listers,

I have a few questions about museum collections databases.

1.       Does your organization use Re:discovery Proficio? If so, what is your opinion of it? What’s good about it? What’s bad about it? Would you recommend it?  Any and all feedback is appreciated.

2.       Does your organization use a free online database system, such as Collective Access (http://www.collectiveaccess.org/)?  If so, what is your opinion of it? Is it reliable? Is it intuitive and user-friendly? How is the IT support/customer service? How large is your organization’s collection and is the free database sufficient for your needs? How do you backup your data in case the system crashes? Does it have the capability to create printable reports and lists? Do you have the option to make your account password protected, so that only designated people can access your information? How many people can use the system at once in your organization, is there a limit? Is the database customizable?

3.       If you have had experience using multiple museum collections databases, in your opinion, what was the best one? Why?

Thank you for any insight you can provide. If you’d prefer to email me off-list, please send responses to the email listed below.

Best,
