MUSEUM REGISTRAR

NATURE OF WORK

The candidate for this position is responsible for the registration of the STOF Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum's permanent collections.  This includes maintaining accession files, accessioning new acquisitions, and beginning the cataloging process.  This candidate also administrates incoming and outgoing collection loans.   This includes being responsible for all processes associated with collection loans, including arranging insurance, condition reporting, packing, and shipping. This position reports to the Museum Collections Manager and is an exempt position.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Receives, processes, issues and maintains records and documents relating to the Museum's permanent collections including deeds of gift, purchase agreements, loan agreements, catalogue records, condition reports, and return receipts.
Takes delivery of, identifies, classifies, and accessions objects in the Museum's collections.
Catalogs, photographs, houses, and labels collection objects as necessary.
Handles arrangements for packing and shipping of collections and coordinates with packing and unpacking.
Couriers Museum collection objects as necessary for the facilitation of loans and exhibitions.  Oversees installation of collection objects as required.
Implements and maintains database standardization procedures and practices.
Manages the Division's pest management program in secure collection areas.
Assists in the preparation of the division budget as it relates to registrarial duties.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES


  *   Knowledge of museum registration methods, cataloguing techniques and storage practices.
  *   Knowledge of records management techniques.
  *   Knowledge of methods used in packing and transporting museum objects.
  *   Excellent computer skills utilizing Microsoft software programs and add-ins
  *   Ability to communicate in English both orally and in writing.
  *   Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  *   Strong interpersonal skills.
  *   Strong communication skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  *   Capable of handling multiple projects and see projects to a point of completion.
  *   Ability to serve the Tribal community, the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity.
  *   Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the STOF tribal community, general public, co-workers and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  *   Ability to work a flexible work schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.

  *   Ability to travel as necessary.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred in history, anthropology, or related field.  Must have one (1) to three (3) years of  museum experience or museum related college coursework.  Knowledge of museum registration methods, cataloguing, and storage practices.  Ability to maintain accurate records and good organizational skills.  Strong communication skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships.  Capable of handling multiple projects and see projects to a point of completion.  Ability to travel when necessary. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills including English written and verbal communication skills. Previous exposure to project-related activities through active participation in system-related projects.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Typically, the incumbent may sit comfortably to do the work; there will be occasional walking, standing, bending, carrying of items of up to 40 lbs, such as artifacts and other museum pieces, books, etc. ; may drive a company vehicle.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Works in a clean, air-conditioned enclosed office area, with little noise.  This person will occasionally be working with historical objects that may contain dust, mold, or other irritants.
