Purpose of Position:
This position resides at the New Mexico Museum of Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
This position will work with the museum's significant art collection. The
Curator’s primary responsibility will be for the prints and works on paper. As
a member of the Art Museum's curatorial team this position is responsible for
the care, development, interpretation, exhibition and information dissemination
regarding the prints and works on paper in the art collection. This position
will be responsible for evaluating and categorizing artwork in the art museum
collection. The curator will ensure collections are preserved and accessible to
the public. This position will plan, research, and develop the art collection
through new acquisitions. This position will work with the registration and
collection department to help maintain accurate records and care of the
collection in compliance with museum standards. This position will contribute
content to the cataloging and information files related to the collection and
ensure object information is complete, accurate and up to date. This position
will assist with fund-raising and promotion, conduct research projects, and
contribute to educational programs and museum outreach. This position will need
to be comfortable working with a broad collection and with artwork and art
exhibitions outside of their main area of responsibility.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in
Museum Studies, Museology, Art, Art History, Art Administration, Anthropology,
American Studies, Archeology, Curatorial Studies, History, Humanities,
Interdisciplinary Studies, Liberal Arts, Public History, or Paleontology and
four (4) years experience in exhibit development, collections management, curation,
creative writing, conducting research in specialty area of a museum, and
working with historical concepts. Any combination of education from an
accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in
this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required
education and experience.
Employment Requirements:
Must obtain and maintain a valid state of New Mexico driver's license and must
attend state vehicle safety certification program in order to drive the museum's
cargo van.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display
Terminal (VDT) and extensive computer and phone usage. Some floor to overhead,
floor to waste, waist to shoulder lifting is required.
Bargaining Unit:
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement and all
terms/conditions of that agreement apply and must be adhered to.
