The John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art, in its affiliation with Florida State University, is one of the largest museum/university complexes in the nation.  Located on 66-acres of Sarasota bay front property, it preserves the legacy of John and Mable Ringling, educating and enabling a large and diverse audience to experience and take delight in a world-renowned collection of fine art and special exhibitions; Ca d'Zan, the Ringling historic mansion; the Circus Museums; the Tibbals Learning Center; the Historic Asolo Theater; and historic architecture, courtyard, gardens and grounds overlooking the Sarasota Bay.  An Education Building houses our library, conservation facility, classrooms, and staff offices. The Visitors Pavilion serves over 350,000 guests annually. 

 

Responsibilities

This position assists with installing Tibbals Learning Center and Circus Museum exhibitions and lighting arrangements. Monitors the Circus Museum and the Tibbals Learning Center audiovisual equipment and interactive computer displays/exhibitions. Evaluates electronic and mechanical status of exhibitions and makes recommendations for improvement. Troubleshoots equipment/computer problems. Monitors Tibbals and Circus buildings and notifies Security or Facilities Maintenance of building issues.

 

Assists with campus wide exhibition audiovisual needs. Builds display cases and panels. Works with Facilities to ensure preventative maintenance program is as current as possible. Performs minor maintenance.

Assists the Preparation and Design team with proper gallery and exhibition lighting, maintenance, and repair. Assists with movement and handling of collections. Monitors and maintains the condition of exhibition areas. Assists with campus wide exhibition lighting and lighting procurement.

 

Fabrication--constructs and dismantles temporary walls/partitions for exhibitions. Assists with the fabrication of crates for international and domestic transport of fine art. Assists with building display cases, pedestals, and plinths for exhibitions. Assists with packing and crating works of art. Drives motorized vehicles to fulfill job duties.

 

Qualifications

•             A high school diploma/equivalent and four years of experience. (Please note: Education will substitute for experience at the equivalent rate).

•             Experience monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining computerized and mechanical lighting control systems.

•             Basic experience maintaining and repairing electronics, researching new equipment, and working with A/V and electronics vendors.

•             Experience installing exhibition or display lighting and assessing lighting needs

•             Ability to assist with the fabrication of crates, pedestals and temporary walls for exhibitions.

•             A valid Florida driver's license or the ability to obtain.

•             The ability to work on ladders and personal lifts, lift and move objects up to 50lbs., and work in small spaces.

 

Preferred

•             Experience with LED lighting.

•             Electrician experience helpful.

 

Anticipated Salary Range: Low to mid $30,000's/year + Florida State benefits available

 

Schedule: Typical schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required, as needed.

 

Background Check Requirements

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check to include fingerprinting.

 

Pay Plan: This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.
