Karen,

Even if your storage areas have proper climate control, silverfish will still migrate (under doors, windows, etc.) into your storage areas if the surrounding rooms are more humid. Our storage area (68 deg, 45% humidity) has silverfish wandering in all the time because we're near a mechanical space and maintenance passageway. We keep sticky traps near all the possible entrances to monitor their numbers in case they start getting out of hand.

generally, silverfish prefer warm and humid areas. They love sugar, glues, paper, textiles, artificial fibers, and leather. The ate also mildew! If you reduce humidity, they might disappear. Check the climate and look for mildew. The appearance of lepisma saccharina is a hint for wrong room climate.

You can fight them with Forficula auricularia and spiders and a cold and dry room climate.

We have been finding silverfish on some of our prints and in storage a storage room. What is the best way to get rid of them and keep them away?
