Good Morning All,

My resume is one page long.  At the bottom of the resume, there is a statement that says that my CV is available on request.

My CV is 15 pages long.  I have been working in the museum field for over four decades so there is a lot of stuff to cover.

BTW, I also have a one page biography that I provide when asked to provide a biographical “sketch” for introductory purposes.  The one page biography is very useful when I am to be introduced at a speaking engagement, or a radio, TV interview.

That is my two cents.

I have also heard that your resume should be however long you need to describe your relevant skills. This means when you are first starting out you may have a one page resume but as you gain more experience and more skills it is ok to have two or three.

Keep in mind your audience too. The Federal Government wants a lot more information when you apply, so those resumes can be much longer.

In my experience, I think you have to use whichever layout you need to make sure that all relevant information is conveyed. For me, that is two pages. I think the organization of the resume is much more crucial to getting noticed than the overall length.

Lately we have been focusing on resumes and there are disagreements on what the rule of thumb is concerning length. Is a one page or multiple page resume the best option for museum jobs? Thanks for your help and advice.

One ship drives east and the other drives west while the self same breezes blow.

Tis the set of the sails and not the gales That determines the way they go.

Like the birds of the air are the ways of fate. As we journey along through life.

Tis the set of the soul that determines the goal. And not the storm and the strife.
