Learn something new every day…interesting program.

Questions to participating organizations…

·         Is the checkout pass program limited to library card holders (patrons whose taxes support the library or those who may pay for library privileges) ?

·         Can anyone obtain a temp card to access the passes?  (non reciprocal or non residents)

·         If a patrons card is blocked, can they still checkout passes?

·         Are there overdue fines if passes are returned late?

Greetings,

Let me give you some perspective from the other side.  I am on the board of the Friends of the Irvington Public Library.  One of my tasks is the Museum pass program.  Our town is a suburb of New York City.  Participating cultural institutions are in New York City, Westchester County (the county we are located in) and Connecticut. We have memberships in science centers, sculpture gardens, art museums, natural history museums, history museums and one aquarium.  Almost all of these institutions have a special category for Library memberships.  The benefits are usually similar to a family membership.  Our members borrow the card for three days.  Other institutions sell discounted tickets to libraries so that our members pay a reduced rate for entrance. The Museum Pass program is hugely popular with our library patrons.  The Friends group believe it is money well spent!  Thanks one and all.

For those of you who have these pass programs, do the libraries pay for the passes, or do the museums give the library a comp ticket?

Thanks,

Robin

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Museum passes avialable for checking out at libraries?

Hi all,

Just gathering some input from the field. Do any of you/your museums currently leave family passes at local libraries to be checked out, used and returned to the library by library patrons? If so, how is this program/partnership working from your perspective?

Thanks,
