Also, if you put the tree outside you could decorate it with things that provide substance for animals, make it into a "green" project. You could do popcorn strings, pine cones dipped in birdseed, that kind of thing. Instead of fighting with staff, make this a nice compromise that everyone can rally behind, and it will also look good in the community. As an extension of caring for animals, perhaps you could offer to be a drop off place for donations of supplies for the local animal shelter or something... just a thought.
