Collections Technician (Part-Time)

 

Introduction:

The Historic Preservation and Collections Department seeks a part-time Collections Technician to assist collections management staff with the cleaning and monitoring of exhibition and storage spaces in which objects from the collections are regularly stored or displayed. 

 

Responsibilities:

·         General cleaning of exhibition spaces, and the specialized cleaning and handling of collections objects, many of which belonged to George Washington and his family.

·         Assists members of the collections department with special projects, such as object inventories, exhibition installation, and movement of the collections.

Qualifications:

·         High school diploma or equivalent. B.A. preferred

·         Prior experience is desirable, especially in the handling of antiques or other fragile, valuable objects as well as knowledge in the use a variety of cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, mops, dusters, brooms, and cloths

·         Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs.

·         Ability to stand for long periods of time

·         Ability to bend and crawl and to climb and balance on ladders

·         Interest in history and museum studies a plus

This is a part-time position with a schedule that includes weekend and evening work.  Typical hours are 6:30am – 2:00pm, four days/week not to exceed 28 hours/week.

Digital Asset Cataloguer (Part-Time)

 

Introduction:

The Historic Preservation and Collections Department seeks a part-time Digital Asset Cataloguer to catalog and process the department’s digital image collection. 

 

Responsibilities:

·         Process digital images of collections objects and exhibition photography.  Processing includes renaming master image, embedding metadata, creating derivatives, inputting new media record in The Museum System (TMS) and linking images to object records.

·         Address cataloguing infrastructure of the digital image collection including creation of a physical record of all digital files and linking bibliographic information to object records.

Qualifications:

·         B.A. degree in Art History, American History or a related field with two years of experience in digital imaging and processing required

·         Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Bridge, Microsoft Office, and The Museum System (TMS) or similar collections database preferred

Position has been funded for 1-year and will work a flexible schedule, Monday through Friday, not exceed 30 hours/week.
