We have a replica Blacksmith Shop, Assay Office, Hoist House, and Hard Rock Mine that visitors can walk through and hear real sounds of mining equipment and explosions. We have a wonderful volunteer that made recordings of these sounds from actual mine operations that are played on a cassette player (yes, we still use tapes!) hooked up to speakers and a general motion sensor. Here is a similar sensor to ours on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Smarthome-INSTEON-2842-222-Wireless-Motion/dp/B003IHTZEO/ref=sr_1_7?s=security-surveillance&ie=UTF8&qid=1415211585&sr=1-7This set up has been working great for about 20 years with very little maintenance needed! On Wed, Nov 5, 2014 at 10:59 AM, Simons, Michael (ES) (Contr) <[log in to unmask]> wrote:As with most things museum related - cheaper to make your own.

Contact the Silent Wings Museum in Lubbock, TX. They have something similar that creates battle sounds in their galleries.

Hello all,
Do any of your sites have sounds triggered by a motion sensor device that help create an ambiance and set the scene for visitors when they walk into a room in your museum space?
For example, we have colleagues in this region who have stables that have been converted into a museum. When visitors walk into the stables a motion sensor picks up on it and then triggers a device which plays pre-recorded horse sounds like neighing and whinnying. It is very impressive.
I have heard of other museums doing this, but I can't remember which ones. I would like to look into this motion sensor technology some more and receive input from different sites.
Thank you for your assistance!
