Deadwood History, Inc. (DHI) is seeking a Registrar to fill a three year grant-funded position.  DHI is the non-profit organization that oversees the operations of the Adams Museum, Days of ’76 Museum, Historic Adams House and the Homestake Adams Research and Cultural Center.   

 

JOB TITLE:  Registrar

SUPERVISED BY:  Executive Director

WORK WEEK:  Temporary, full-time, 40 hours per week

CLOSING DATE:  October 20, 2014

 

SUMMARY OF POSITION:  Deadwood History, Inc. seeks to hire a Registrar for a three year grant-funded project.  The Registrar will assist with a backlog of collections accessioning and cataloging.  Support the institution’s mission and its policies and procedures.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Accession donations: prepare the necessary documented paperwork, ensuring all signatures have been obtained, enter information into accession log and PastPerfect 5 database, file paper copies according to established system.

·         Catalog objects: number objects, create detailed descriptions, photograph objects and link to PastPerfect 5 database entries, organize and file paper documentation according to established system.

·         Object storage: create housing for objects using appropriate materials, secure a permanent location for objects in storage vault, label storage boxes, record location information into PastPerfect 5 database system.

·         Attend monthly progress meetings, assist with the preparation of quarterly project reports and participate in project evaluations and inventories.

·         Assist with the creation, development and presentation of three collections related workshops that will be offered to the public.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates should hold a Master’s degree in museum studies, anthropology, public history or related field and have at least three to five years of experience.  Candidate should be detail oriented, possess strong oral and written communication skills and have a working knowledge of PastPerfect Museum Software.  Candidate must be able to work independently and collaboratively, work well under pressure and adhere to deadlines. 

 

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to lift 20 pounds.  Expected to alternatively be able to sit, stand and walk at least eight hours daily.  Must be able to see, speak and hear effectively (with or without reasonable accommodations).

 

TYPICAL EQUIPMENT USED

Must be able to operate office equipment including a computer, digital camera, scanner, fax machine, copier, small and large format printers and telephone.
