Organization Description
The National Sporting Library & Museum, located in historic Middleburg, Virginia, is dedicated to preserving, sharing and promoting the literature, art and culture of equestrian, angling and field sports. Founded in 1954, the institution houses over 26,000 books dating from the 16th thru 21st centuries. The Museum displays artwork from the NSLM permanent collection as well as rotating temporary loan exhibitions. The permanent collection includes paintings, sculpture, works on paper and decorative art objects by American, British and European artists ranging from the 18th to 21st centuries. Position Description
The NSLM Curatorial Department is seeking interns to assist with cataloging, research and care of the permanent collection of art, to include paintings, sculpture, works on paper and decorative art objects. One to two interns are selected each semester to work directly with curatorial staff and have the opportunity to learn about collection management practices and gain hands on experience with collection management database software. Additional internship projects include researching individual works of art, contributing to educational material, and assisting with exhibitions.

Fall, Spring and Summer term positions are available. Fall and Spring terms require at least 8 hours per week. Summer term requires at least 16 hours per week. Please indicate schedule availability in application. This position is unpaid. NSLM is willing to coordinate with academic programs for those students wishing to earn credit.

Qualifications
Ideal candidate will be an undergraduate or graduate student (or recent graduate) with strong research and writing skills, be detail oriented, and have coursework experience in Art History, Museum Studies or Arts Management.
