Job Summary: The Director, Alabama Museum of Natural
History is responsible for the operations of the museum to include delivery of
public programs, collections management, and exhibits.
Additional Department Summary: As one of the oldest
university museums in the U.S., the Alabama Museum of Natural History strives
to be a national leader among museums at institutions of higher education. The
AMNH is dedicated to facilitating collections-based research in the natural
sciences by faculty and students and presenting the state's natural history,
including its extraordinary biodiversity as demonstrated in the fossil record,
to the UA community and the general public through quality educational programs
and state-of-the-art exhibits.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in
museum studies, biology, geology, anthropology, natural science, education, or
other relevant field and at least two (2) years experience working in a museum
or similar educational setting, or other relevant experience; OR Ph.D. in
biology, geology, anthropology, natural science, education, or other relevant
field and at least one (1) year experience working in a museum or similar
educational setting, or other relevant experience
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Valid
U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age and have an
acceptable motor vehicle report as determined by the insurance carrier.
Skills and Knowledge: Ability to work
independently or as a team. Effective communication skills, both verbal
and written. Ability to work with a diverse population and excellent
interpersonal skills. Knowledge of personal computers and standard software
applications. Ability to understand basic budgeting and accounting
procedures.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working at a
museum, historic site or environmental organization. Experience in the
development and implementation of exhibits and public programming in a museum
setting. Record of publication in peer-reviewed journals. Experience in writing
and submitting grant proposals. Supervisory experience.
