Department

The John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art, in its affiliation with Florida State University, is one of the largest museum/university complexes in the nation. Located on an impressive 66-acre Sarasota bay front estate, it preserves the legacy of John and Mable Ringling, educating and enabling a large and diverse audience to experience and take delight in a world-renowned collection of fine art and special exhibitions; Ca d'Zan, the Ringling historic mansion; the Circus Museums; the Tibbals Learning Center; the Historic Asolo Theater; and historic architecture, courtyard, gardens and grounds overlooking the Sarasota Bay. An Education Building houses our library, conservation facility, classrooms, and staff offices. The Visitors Pavilion serves some 350,000 guests annually.

Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for coordinating all incoming traveling and in-house organized exhibitions including but not limited to: contract review, loan documentation, shipping logistics, insurance, installation, and couriers.

Responsible for managing exhibition workflow and exhibition related data in TMS. Will work closely with Curatorial, Preparation and Conservation staff, as well as artists and outside vendors.

Assists with monitoring the museum's environment, maintaining dataloggers, and producing charts and related reports.

Registrarial duties include: Collections inventory, responding to collections inquiries, preparation of records for public access, assisting with digitization of collection, and assisting with interns and fellows. Assists with the development of registrar files on collection objects, and may assist with exhibition installation/ deinstallation. May assist with shipping or receiving object loans.

May be required to travel (nationally or internationally) to serve as a Museum courier. Assignments are based on the needs of the Museum. Courier training and certification is required prior to the incumbent serving in this capacity.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Art, Art history, Administration, Museum Studies, or a related field and three years of experience in museum exhibitions. (Note: Higher in-field education may substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)

Ability to collaborate with staff, artists, and outside vendors.

Knowledge of standard museum loan and registration practices including experience with loan documentation, contract review, and fine arts insurance.

Experience with art handling, and knowledge of best practices including environmental monitoring guidelines related to the display of art work.

Proven organizational skills, with the strong ability to set priorities, manage multiple tasks, work

independently, and function under pressure.

A valid Florida driver's license, or the ability to obtain prior to hire.

Preferred

Experience with TMS.

Anticipated Salary Range

Mid $30,000's/year + Florida State benefits available. Salary commensurate with experience.

Schedule

Typical schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00am-5:00pm. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required to meet the needs of the museum.

Background Check Requirements

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check to include fingerprinting.

Pay Plan

This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.
