Special Events Assistant


Background:

The Guest Experience Division provides meaningful learning opportunities for Mount Vernon's one million annual guests. Through a diverse portfolio of interpretive experiences, engaging public programs, services and events, we expand each guest's understanding of, and appreciation for, our nation's Founding Father.

The Office of Special Events, one of the Division's eight operating units, manages all public, private and internal events, experiences, conferences and programs at Mount Vernon.

Division-wide Principles:

Position-specific Responsibilities:

  *   Assist the Manager of Special Events with the planning and implementation of public and private events, as well as other commemorative celebrations and programming. Work closely with Guest Services' Reservations Office, the Mount Vernon Inn Catering Office and Mount Vernon support units.
  *   Serve as the Office of Special Events' lead contact for scheduling and contracting VIP Tours, manage all inquiries, schedule tours for VIP Tour Guides, ensure VIP guests receive proper information and directions and provide superb concierge service at all times.
  *   Assist the Manager of Special Events with the planning and implementation of lecture series, receptions and special meetings/programs for internal and external parties.
  *   Assist with coordinating all estate meeting spaces, room reservations and set-up requirements including use of National Library meeting and seminar spaces. Ensure accuracy of all estate calendars.
  *   Provide general administrative support to the Manager of Special Events, the Special Events Office, and others as needed, to include facilitation of event contracts and invoice processing.

Minimum Qualifications:


  *   A bachelor's degree and 1-2 years of relevant experience required.
  *   Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and clerical skills required.
  *   Must be responsible, flexible, detail-oriented and a self-starter with ability to work well under pressure, manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  *   Ability to work creatively and effectively as a member of a team.

  *   Must work occasional weekends, evenings, and holidays.
