>From 11-12 September 2014, The Hunt Museum will be hosting an education
conference exploring the importance of community engagement, museum
access and culture. The conference will consider how museums and
communities can work together to create diverse, inclusive programs and
exhibits which truly reflect the breadth and richness of the cultural
environment they inhabit, and how cultural programs can support
community development and regeneration.
We are delighted to announce that the keynote speaker for the
conference
is Camille Giraud Akeju, Director of the Smithsonian Anacostia
Community Museum, Washington DC, USA
Friday 12 September focuses on the role of museum and art institutions
in community development and access. Papers presented on the Friday
will be given by invited speakers and from practitioner accepted through
this call for papers.
Call for Papers
We invite museum and cultural practitioners to submit a paper for the
conference. Papers should explore practical approaches to the challenges
presented by reaching new or hard to reach audiences, the role of
museums in community development or explore one of the conference
themes.
Themes for the papers can include, but are not limited to:
- Diversity
- Museum/Cultural access
- Engagement
- Relationship between the community and a museum/cultural
institution
Papers should be 15 minutes including time for questions. Abstracts
should not exceed 250 words and should be submitted via email to:

for papers and a short biography of the presenter.
Important Dates:
Deadline for submission of abstracts: Wednesday, 16 July at 5.00 pm
(GMT)
The papers will undergo a review process and a decision will be provided
via email. Notification of acceptance/refusal will be after Friday, 25
July.
Presenters who have papers accepted will be required to complete the
registration process within ten days of notification to ensure their
paper is included in the final programme.
