The Heritage Program of the Presidio Trust maintains an ongoing Heritage Education Volunteer Internship program to support our education team and provide a unique training opportunity in informal education. The number of applicants accepted annually is dependent on the number and type of projects planned for the year. The duration of a Heritage Education Volunteer Internship is eleven months.

Internship duties include leading educational programming in the form of field trips, after school programs, camps, and family events for youth ranging from pre-K through high school as well as for some adult audiences.  The intern will also assist the education staff with the development and implementation of new education programs and outreach initiatives.  The position is described in detail below. If selected, you will work and live onsite at the Presidio, a former military post that is now a national park. The positions are considered volunteer and successful applicants must sign an agreement for donated services and abide by the Trust’s lodging rules. The volunteer intern will be required to work 40 hours per week with regular weekend shifts.  Occasional holidays and evenings may be required. Benefits include paid vacation, sick leave, and federal holidays. Interns are provided single occupancy dorm-style housing and a stipend of $300 every two weeks. You must reside in the housing provided to receive the stipend. We cannot accept non-residential interns. If you are interested in non-residential opportunities, please visit our volunteer opportunities page.
