The Heritage Program of the Presidio Trust maintains an ongoing Heritage Education Volunteer Internship program to support our education team and provide a unique training opportunity in informal education. The number of applicants accepted annually is dependent on the number and type of projects planned for the year. The duration of a Heritage Education Volunteer Internship is eleven months.

 

Internship duties include leading educational programming in the form of field trips, after school programs, camps, and family events for youth ranging from pre-K through high school as well as for some adult audiences.  The intern will also assist the education staff with the development and implementation of new education programs and outreach initiatives.  The position is described in detail below. If selected, you will work and live onsite at the Presidio, a former military post that is now a national park. The positions are considered volunteer and successful applicants must sign an agreement for donated services and abide by the Trust’s lodging rules. The volunteer intern will be required to work 40 hours per week with regular weekend shifts.  Occasional holidays and evenings may be required. Benefits include paid vacation, sick leave, and federal holidays. Interns are provided single occupancy dorm-style housing and a stipend of $300 every two weeks. You must reside in the housing provided to receive the stipend. We cannot accept non-residential interns. Internship deadline

Internships are eleven months long. The internship begins in June and ends the following May. Deadline for summer applications is April 15 (deadline extended). You will be informed of a decision by May 15.

The application should include:

Cover letter: The cover letter should provide the applicant’s contact information, including phone number. Provide a brief explanation of your interest in the position relative to your future educational and career goals. The strongest applicants will be clear about what they can contribute to the Heritage Program with specific reference to the position description. If you have any special skills or interests, please include those.

 

Resume: The resume should outline the applicant’s relevant experience and include contact information for three references familiar with the applicant’s previous work or academic experience.

 

The Presidio Trust will review applications received and will select some or all for interviews to be conducted at a mutually arranged time.
