Don’t forget to check with your public library. We are in a small city but the library recently received funding to develop a grant center. It is well worth your time to go in and chat with the reference librarian to see what resources they have. Foundation Center is also fantastic. They have free webinars and recorded archives of all kinds of trainings. The PDF’s provided with their trainings can be an excellent resource as well. Also if you check foundation websites, they often post successful grant proposals so people can see what they funded recently.

I am in the same position! I'm also interested in learning more about how to write grant requests but am not in a professional position with my own projects. There are some grant writing workshops coming up in my area but they seem to be geared to current museum professionals with specific projects and grants. Should I be thinking about attending these programs? Another question: is it a big no-no to ask for copies of successful grant requests from mentors or current volunteer supervisors? Some of my current mentors are very active grant writers (including BLM and government grants) and I don't want to step on toes. Is this request acceptable or a major faux pas?
