Gallery Director, New York City

For our renowned contemporary art gallery we are seeking a Gallery Director. The successful applicant will work with the gallery’s Founder to create, initiate and manage all aspects of a rapidly growing program, including sourcing and maintaining relationships with private, public and corporate collectors; initiate and close sales; liaise with artists and visit studios; develop the gallery’s program and exhibition schedule; assist with PR and communications strategies; participate in all art fairs; represent the gallery at events, panels, museum and gallery openings; other duties as necessary.  The ideal candidate will have 5 – 7 years’ experience with an art gallery or auction house with a focus on cutting-edge contemporary art, extensive knowledge of international trends and markets and proven history of sales and client development.   BA in art history or equivalent and excellent written and interpersonal communication skills are required.  National and international travel and the ability to work extra hours and weekends as necessary.
