The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) invites nominations and
applications for the position of Director of the Jane Addams Hull-House
Museum, with appointment beginning spring or summer of 2014.

Leading the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum into its next phase of growth,
the Director will create and implement the vision for the museum and its
programs that honor social reformer Jane Addams, the first American woman
to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, and her colleagues whose work changed the
lives of their immigrant neighbors as well as national and international
public policy. This internationally-known museum is part of the College of
Architecture, Design, and the Arts, and represents Jane Addams’s and the
Hull-House settlement’s commitments to social change, public service and
education.

The Director has primary responsibility for exhibitions and programs,
facilities and operations, the collections, the preservation and
improvement of the two historic buildings that make up the Hull-House, and
the future expansion of the Museum. The Director communicates the
significance of the history and legacy to the campus community, the
neighborhood, the residents of the City of Chicago, and national and
international publics.

The Director reports to the Dean of the College of Architecture, Design,
and the Arts and operates with help and advice from an advisory committee.
The Director collaborates with Museum and Exhibition Studies program, the
UIC Social Justice Initiative, the campus Centers for Cultural
Understanding and Social Change and the wider University community to
develop meaningful educational opportunities and public programs with the
schools of art and art history, architecture, design, and theatre and
music. The Director will be expected to teach in their field of study in
the College, and work with faculty and students in interdisciplinary
research and teaching activities that relate to the Museum and/or the
legacy of Jane Addams. The Director will expand connections with community
groups and local, national and international organizations. The Director is
responsible for the operating budget of the Museum and is expected to
attract private, public, and foundation support to bring the museum to new
levels of public service, research, and instruction.
