I am a big fan of Miele vacuums. You can get one with variable suction control, HEPA filtration and microtool kit for about a third of the price of a Nilfisk. Plus, their design and usability is so superior to the average vacuum that they almost make vacuuming a pleasure.

Robin,

We use a Bissel sweeper, non-electric. Works perfect for us, not sure how big of an area you have.

For the historic house folks amongst you – do you have a favorite vacuum type that is suitable for both cleaning the high traffic areas as well as doing double duty for curatorial needs? (i.e., has a low suction option).

Thanks,

Robin
