Kaminski House Museum

Summary:

The Kaminski House Museum in Georgetown, SC seeks a dynamic individual for the newly created position of Assistant Director. The successful candidate will be responsible for: marketing all museum programs; developing and expanding the museum’s revenue streams (tours, gift shop, and rentals); developing programs of public support for the museum; developing and implementing fundraising programs for both annual operations and special campaigns; and performing related professional, supervisory, and administrative work as required.

The Assistant Director reports to the Executive Director and will work closely with the museum board and volunteers.


Responsibilities:
1.  Develops and continually refines a Comprehensive Marketing Strategy for the Kaminski House Museum (KHM) and the Stewart Parker House (SPH) in collaboration with the Executive Director (ED) and the Board of Directors (BoD) to maximize visibility and revenue streams (tours, gift shop, and rental of facilities).

 

2.  Implements the Marketing Strategy on a daily basis, provides monthly reports to the ED and BoD, recommends potential modifications in the Marketing Strategy in response to problems or new opportunities; and provides an annual report and update of the Marketing Strategy for the ED and BoD.

 

3.  Develops, implements, and continually refines a Fundraising Plan to support the annual operating budget that includes a vigorous recruitment for Museum membership program, a strong Museum membership communications program, an accurate and up-to-date member records and mailing lists, and a number of special events that raise money and visibility.

 

4.  Develops and implements a Capital Campaign to address deferred maintenance issues as well as underwrite enhancements to KHM/SPH including, identifying potential donors (individuals, foundations, corporations, businesses), soliciting potential donors, writing grants, establishing and maintaining accurate records in accordance with IRS standards and protocols, maintaining donor stewardship (thanking donors and communicating regularly with them), submitting related annual 501(c)(3) and other IRS or tax documentation in a timely fashion, providing a monthly report summarizing fundraising activity (calls, visits, grants written, gifts received), and providing an annual report to the BoD, the KHM/SPH Membership, and the public.

 

5.  Designs and prepares an Annual Report that is sent to the Friends of KHM/SPH Membership, City Council, and the public.

 

6.  Attends professional meetings, conferences and workshops to maintain knowledge of current theories and trends in non-profit operations, marketing and fundraising; participates on various committees and in professional meetings and activities.

 

7.  Performs various administrative duties as necessary, including preparing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, entering and retrieving computer data, answering the telephone, and other tasks as requested by the ED or BoD.

 

 

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, with preference for a Master's degree in non-profit marketing, fundraising, or related field, at least three years of experience in marketing and/or fundraising, a self-starter, an effective communicator, and a commitment to enhancing the cultural and economic development of the City of Georgetown, SC.


Compensation and Benefits:
Salary is commensurate with experience.

About the Kaminski House Museum:

Located in the heart of Georgetown’s Historic District, the Kaminski House was built about 1769, and contains an outstanding collection of American and English furniture and decorative arts from the 18th and 19th centuries. Featured are several interesting examples of Charleston cabinetmaking of the 1800s.  Open to the public since 1973, the Kaminski House Museum is a teaching tool for presenting history.  From the promise of the colonial period to the difficulties of Civil War and Reconstruction to the current day, the site serves as a backdrop to the growth and changes in Georgetown and the surrounding areas.
