Just a quick note in this regard: Much of the discussion I have heard recently  by "experts" is about sustainability and responding to the question "Are there too many house manseums?" The problem I find is that there are many groups looking to save historic houses and some of them are museums relating to minority group concerns. Now that new people are coming to the table some of the rules get changed? It seems there are lots of unanswered questions. If there are new museums coming on line will they experience the same declining attendance that the old house museums have had? Wil these new places be supported in differnet ways? Just some thoughts...

Hello all,

I'm looking for the best guidebooks or other texts on care of historic houses and their collections. I've done a google search, but would love the input of current museum professionals especially informed on the issues unique to this type of museum. 

Preventive Conservation for Historic House Museums (Merritt and Reilly) looks good to me. Any thoughts?
