Jim, late in responding to this – still getting through all the messages that came through at once – but thanks for the very practical advice on the care and preservation of newspapers. And a very interesting site – especially the images and notes on daguerreotypes, ambrotypes and the like.

Subject: Re: [MUSEUM-L] preserving old letters?
Dear Kelley,
This excerpt from my book, "Collecting American Newspapers", might be of some help:
http://www.jimlyons.com/Preservation.htmlI would also suggest to anyone that they get hold of a University Products catalog, free from
http://www.universityproducts.com/It's practically an education in preservation/conservation by itself.

I have about 75 letters that are 50 years old. I'm planning on scanning each individually and then preserving them (with their original envelopes).
Just wondering if anyone has any tips regarding scanning and storage?
Please feel free to email me at [log in to unmask].
Thanks!
