Position Announcement, Illinois State Museum Position Title: Museum Technician I, External Affairs Assistant, (Full-time, State Funded) Work Location: Illinois State Museum, 502 South Spring Street, Springfield, Illinois 62706 Duties and Responsibilities: Serves as an external affairs assistant to the Director of the Illinois Artisans Program & External Affairs. Participates and assists in strategic planning, implementation, and execution of communications, public relations, development and marketing efforts to heighten public awareness and support of the Illinois State Museum and its programs in art, anthropology, history, and natural history. Position is responsible for the management and delivery of content to various media. Maintains and develops social media content for Facebook, tumblr, Twitter, Pinterest, and other online sites. Manages database related to development efforts including membership and donors. Drafts, designs and manages online communications including online membership newsletter. Designs a variety of communication documents. Assists with both placement and strategic planning for all forms of media. Proofs, edits, and drafts press releases, feature articles, news stories and other communication documents. Demonstrated minimum of three years of experience working in an administrative assistant capacity with responsibilities for organizing major projects, communicating with the public, and developing written materials and online publications. Must be highly organized & creative. Demonstrated experience and practical knowledge of the principles of communications and public relations and their role in advancing an organizational agenda.Knowledge of the principles of fundraising and experience in fundraising are preferred. Must be able to evaluate the public relations value of information and be able distinguish from news.Experience in a cultural institution or other not-for-profit organization relevant to the Museum’s disciplines of art, anthropology, history, and natural history is strongly preferred. Must have excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills. Experience with Google analytics, and email database distribution software; proficiency with social media platforms, Adobe creative suite, and computers including word processing, and database management are required.Proficiency with software design programs such as Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, or other creative suite strongly preferred. Experience with Google apps preferred.Must be able to work independently and in a team environment.
