The Ohio History Service Corps - AmeriCorps Program is currently accepting applications for two Local History Team Member positions with a collections focus that will be hosted at the Ohio History Center in Columbus. Corps members will work with other Local History Corps members stationed around the state to help history organizations build capacity for digitization and collections management projects. Corps members will also collaborate with other Local History Corps members and history organizations to build capacity for educational and public programming, special events, regional initiatives, heritage tourism, and historic preservation. This is a full-time AmeriCorps position from September 9, 2013 to August 31, 2014. Members must complete a minimum of 1700 hours. The Local History Corps members with a collections focus will receive training in some or all of the following practices: collections management, digitization, scanning equipment, imaging software, volunteer management, meeting facilitation, train-the-trainer, event planning, marketing/public relations, and community mapping. Members will also attend the Ohio Local History Alliance annual meeting and regional Ohio History Alliance meetings as well as participate in National Days of Service and AmeriCorps Week. Program Specific Responsibilities * Collaborate with Local History Corps members to conduct education and outreach services for local history organizations related to digitization and collections management. * Develop training materials and conduct workshops/trainings on digitization and collections management projects for staff and volunteers at local history organizations. * Recruit, engage and assist in coordinating volunteers at local history organizations for Local History Corps related efforts. * Provide volunteer management tools and resources for local history and regional organizations. * Assist in the development of oral history exhibits and programs. * Collaborate with OHS staff to add digital collections to Ohio Memory. * Evaluate, select and create metadata for historical collections. * Research history and provenance of specific collections to assist with description and cataloging. * Handle, inventory, and process archival, museum, and library collections. Service schedule: Local History AmeriCorps members are expected to serve approximately 35-40 hours a week or a minimum of 1700 hours total from September 9, 2013 to August 31, 2014.
