Collections Curator (part-time: 20 hours)

The New York City Police Museum seeks a Collections Curator to perform specialized, professional work involving the exhibition, documentation, storage, research, and additional refinement of the museum's collection.  The successful candidate will balance collections care responsibilities with the creation of innovative exhibitions about the exciting and important history of policing and law enforcement in New York City.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 *   The creation, planning, and execution of new exhibitions for the museum, as well as working as the project manager for a broad re-design of permanent collection galleries at the museum.
 *   Acting as a liaison between the museum and outside consultants (i.e., exhibit designers, graphic designers, etc.) who aid in producing new displays; making certain that the best interest of the museum are maintained.
 *   Proper care and documentation of the museum's collections, which encompass a broad range of archival and historical material culture, including police uniforms and equipment, photographs, rare books, and documents.
 *   Assistance with research requests for individuals, students, researchers, educators, and other professionals seeking information from The New York City Police Museum.
 *   Other administrative duties may include participation in the museum's website redesign, securing loan agreements, donations, copyrights, and research permission requests. The Curator will also work directly with the Director of Education to create engaging and educationally-stimulating exhibits.

Minimum Requirements:

 *   M.A./M.S. degree required in history, museum studies, or a closely-related field.
 *   Detailed knowledge of New York City history strongly preferred.
 *   Minimum 2-4 years experience managing related museum functions in accordance with best practice museum standards.
