Christa - you can try using some wax paper or siliconized mylar around the residue when wrapping the belt. This should keep the residue off adjacent portions or the belt and keep it from sticking to the fabric.

Cheers!

Hello All,
We have in our collection a hernia belt dating from the 1930s.  There are two pressure spots that are filled with a sticky substance that has leaked overtime causing a residue to form.  I can't wrap the belt because the tissue sticks and rips off and I was wondering if there was any way to store this without causing damage.  The majority of the belt is made of leather and metal.  Any suggestions on how to store this?

Sincerely,
