Assistant Registrar for Exhibition and Loans (Full-time):

 

The Wolfsonian-FIU seeks an experienced Assistant Registrar for Loans and Exhibitions who will oversee the routine management of collections-related projects for exhibitions and loans. This position reports to the Chief Registrar and will work closely with the exhibitions, curatorial, research, and other functional units across the organization. The incumbent will be a central resource for borrowers, lenders, conservators, visiting researchers, and other stakeholders.

 

v  The Assistant Registrar for Loans and Exhibitions will:

 

§  Manage all logistics and documentation for incoming/outgoing loans and in-house and traveling exhibitions, including handling, packing, and condition reporting for all objects entering and leaving the museum

§  Coordinate exhibition-related conservation needs assessment, staging, installation and de-installation

§  Create and update records the collections database (Re:Discovery) and produce reports as needed

§  Collaborate with exhibitions, security and curatorial departments to ensure the safety, security, and preservation of collections in galleries, including monitoring and recording environmental conditions and pest management

§  Manage exhibition and loan project budgets, produce purchase orders, and track and report project budgets

§  Develop and implement professional registration policy and procedures, and train museum staff, volunteers, and students in the care and handling of collections

 

v  The Assistant Registrar for Loans and Exhibitions may:

§  Assists in the rolling object inventory

§  Help develop and monitor the departmental budget, procure supplies and track expenses for collections management equipment and materials

§  Facilitate and supervise access to collections and records by museum fellows, FIU faculty, museum staff, and others

§  Supervise interns and volunteers

§  Serve on museum committees and participate in museum-wide projects and events as needed

 

Requirements:

 

·         Bachelor’s degree in art, art history, museum studies or related field

·         Minimum three years of museum registration experience managing loans and exhibitions

·         Demonstrated knowledge of museum policies and procedures, and professional registration best practices

·         Extraordinary project management skills and attention to detail

·         Self-motivated, resourceful, and flexible; creativity in analyzing and solving problems

·         Excellent ability to interact with funders, donors, faculty, students and colleagues 

·         Excellent oral and written communication skills

·         Patience, persistence, and an amazing sense of humor are desirable
