Open Position: Assistant Curator/Collections Manager

commensurate with experience.



The World Chess Hall of Fame (WCHOF) is seeking an Assistant
Curator/Collections Manager to support its exhibitions program. The
position will have the responsibility of assisting with or independently
curating six exhibitions annually as well manage the collection totaling
over 3000 objects. The position will report to the VP-Exhibitions and
Curatorial Affairs and will work closely with the Program Manager, Graphic
Designer, Director, and COO. Additionally, the position will interact with
borrowers, lenders, insurance representatives, shipping and transport
agents, consultants, and independent curators.

The Assistant Curator/Collections Manager is responsible for preparing loan
forms, incoming/outgoing receipts, accessioning objects, executing
condition reports, coordinating shipping arrangements and other duties
associated with mounting temporary exhibitions. The Assistant
Curator/Collections Manager is responsible for unpacking, environmental
monitoring, developing exhibition timelines, and installing and
deinstalling works of art in collaboration with the Director and
VP-Exhibitions and Curatorial Affairs.


Position Requires:

·         Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree Preferred in Art
History, History, Museum Studies or similar field

·         Minimum of 2-3 years experience in a museum or similar non-profit
center

·         Excellent research skills

·         Strong computer skills: expert facility with MS Office, including
Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

·         Experience with registrar databases, preferably PastPerfect

·         Previous experience shipping loans and/or exhibitions
domestically and internationally

·         Knowledge of current best practices and standards in the field
(including art handling, packing and shipping)

·         Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
(both written and verbal)

·         Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and to meet competing
deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

·         Ability to be equally effective when working independently or as
a part of a team

·         Experience with digital photography preferred

·         Meticulous work habits and attention to detail; consistency in
procedures and quality of effort in all areas of work

·         Experience with Photoshop and InDesign preferred

·         Some travel may be required

·         The Final Candidate must successfully pass a background check



No chess playing skills required.
