Hi Kasey,
Your state should have some grants available through your Humanities Council or Arts Council for programming, though very rarely for bricks and mortar projects.  There is also the listings on Preservation Directory.com,
Grants.gov, The National Endowment for the Humanities; your state museum, historical society, or heritage council should also have some grant opportunities.  You can also check out the AAM, IMLS, and other professional organizations.  The Foundation Center has a lot of opportunities to sort through but you might find what you are looking for.  One local resource that I always check with is my county, city or town foundation, for example the Springfield Foundation (of Springfield, Ohio), provides grants to non-profit organizations that fit its mission.  Your state may have a foundations directory that could be found on the list at the Foundation Center here.  I've also found just quick searches in google with your state, county, and/or city name + the words "grantmakers" "grants" and "funding."
I hope that helps!
Best,
Melissa

Dear Museum-L,

I am currently looking for information and resources for writing grants. I work for a very small, non-profit historic site and we are looking for ways to expand our fundraising. We have no shortage of good ideas on how to make our site better, but we always come back to how are we going to fund it. I brought up the possibility of finding grants, but realized that I don't even know where to start, which is why I am turning to you.

Are there any good sites out there to learn how to write grants and/or where to find the grants themselves so that I can apply for them?

Thanks!

Kasey A. Johnson
