We recently had a production company rent our office (in a building next to the museum) for the "behind the scenes" filming of a "reality" television show. I would not do so again. They had probably a dozen more crew than we were told they would have. They stacked lots of equipment on surfaces (my desk!) that we were told that they would not need to use. They took apart our security motion sensor because it beeped each time they went in or out of the room. They left behind food and trash. We also didn't receive the credit that we were told that we would have. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Pat D. Really, it's important to ask yourself why you would say yes. Is it for income? Be sure that all contingencies are covered as far as restoring things the way they were or BETTER. And that you include the cost of staff time and potential loss of public use time. I'm also skeptical when it is called a "low budget film" Low compared to what? We had a low budget film use one of our sites, and they spent more on the food service for their crew of 6 then they did on use of our site. Is it to become better known? That is fleeting - those credits at the end of any film go by pretty darn fast. I will send you a copy of our agreement.....which, by the way, we have not said yes to another production since that first one. Which went well, we just haven't seen a compelling reason to say yes. I was recently contacted by someone who wants to use one of our historic structures to film part of a low budget movie and I want to be sure to have all my bases covered. Unfortunately, we don't have anything written in our policies to handle situations like this. Staff is very hesitant to allow this to happen (especially me) based on previous posts I've read on the listserve. If anybody would be willing to share with me off list, I would appreciate it.
