The primary goal behind obtaining this position is to continue to develop a Santa Fe Trail Research Library, housed at the Santa Fe Trail Center Museum, Larned, KS. This would be done in partnership between SFTC/SFTA. This aligns very well with the Strategic Plan developed in partnership between the SFTA/NPS where “Research on the SFT” was considered as one of the highest priorities. In order to achieve this, an intern is needed to work primarily with the Harry C. Myers Research Collection, as well as other items in the SFTA and SFTC holdings which also include the Paul Bentrup Collection and the Mary Gambel Collection, as well as various other materials accumulated through the SFTA. A long-term project occurring at the Trail Center is the task of entering all of the museum’s collections records into a Collections Management database. The program, Past Perfect, will allow for easier access and clearer record keeping of the collections once all of the data has been entered. Because the museum has such extensive three dimensional, archival, and photograph collections, this will take thousands of hours to complete. The Santa Fe Trail Association is joining in this project by including our collections in this database. * * The Santa Fe Trail Association, in partnership with the Santa Fe Trail Center and the National Park Service, will offer one internship opportunity. This Internship will involve the curatorial, development, education, and library/archive departments of the museum.
