JOB SUMMARY:

The State Historical Society of North Dakota is looking to hire two temporary collections assistants to help with processing collections directly related to the North Dakota Heritage Center expansion project. The duties associated with these positions will require bending, kneeling, lifting, climbing ladders and standing for extended periods of time. These positions would start around October 1, 2012 and will be retained for the de-installation phase of the project which will take approximately six months. If funding allows, these positions may be extended for additional time. Job duties include the following: 

• Taking artifacts off exhibit during the de-installation process and moving them to the collections workroom for processing. 
• Reviewing the data related to each object taken off exhibit as part of the de-installation, and updating that data as needed.  The updated data related to each object taken off exhibit will be entered into the SHSND’s collections database using PastPerfect.
• Verifying that all artifacts are returned to the correct Division.
• Assigning bar codes to the object taken off exhibit to ensure easier tracking and retrieval in the future.  
• Reporting on the condition of each object taken off exhibit.  This will include photographing the object to visually record its condition.
• Preparing data sheets that list basic information such as dimensions, weight, and care requirements for those objects that are slated to go back on exhibit in the new exhibit galleries. 
• Cleaning objects.
• Rehousing objects to collections storage or to staging areas for those items going back on exhibit.
• Assist with the transferring of Native American collections.
